This weekend was the first round of the 2010 ATV WORCS National series and there was really no better way to start the season than with a win. Congratulations to EKS BRAND, Maxis, MCR sponsored Beau Barron who put his Honda into the lead early and battled all the way to his first ever National win. This year WORCS changed the racing format and now requires our Sunday gate-pick to be determined by lap-times achieved in Saturday’s practice. I had the fastest lap time in Saturday’s practice and therefore was awarded the first gate-pick for the race on Sunday. I lined up on the inside and for the first time on my Honda I got a great start, right next to Yamaha and EKS BRAND sponsored rider Dustin Nelson. Dustin and I had four really fast-pace laps where we exchanged first and second positions several times. Good thing we both were wearing EKS BRAND goggles because we were killing each other with roost…. Just after the one hour mark of the two hour race, Dustin’s chain broke which resulted in a DNF for Nelson. While Nelson and I had our battle early in the race we pulled away from Can-Am’s Josh Fredrick by a considerable amount and I had about a twenty second lead on him. I finished out the race this way and captured my first, of hopefully many, 2010 WORCS wins. Josh Frederick took second and my team manager Mike Cafro had a well-fought for third place, giving Team MCR two spots on the podium.
