DESCRIPTION OF THE TRACK:
Lots of hills and tight corners, dry and hot at first and then muddy late in the afternoon when torrential rain set in
POINTS OF INTEREST:
3 races of four laps on both the 65 and 85
30 riders in the 65cc class and two heats in the 85cc class
The event was Reece’s debut race with GMR Motorex KTM Junior Racing
Reece had all his bikes and gear stolen two weeks ago not the start to the year he was hoping for, yet the podium brightened his spirits
QUOTES
RACER – Reece Rayner
“In the 85cc class I got second in each of my three motos, to get second overall for the event, said Rayner. “Another KTM rider, privateer Egan Mastin got the win in the 85cc class, but I was just really happy to be on the podium at my first official event with GMR. In the 65cc class I got 4th, 2nd and 1st for third overall.
“It was a lot of fun and overall I’m really happy with my results and to have the chance to learn from a professional junior racing team like GMR.”
TEAM MANAGER – Glenn Macdonald
“Since Lakes was the first major event for the year, it was a good opportunity for Reece to get some experience on the circuit, particularly considering this track will be hosting the Australian Junior Motocross Championship in September.
“Reece had a test of all conditions, from a groomed track early in the morning, to a hard pack race track mid morning, followed by torrential rain in the afternoon. His consistent starts throughout the day, kept him up with the front runners to get a podium in each class, so as a team we couldn’t be happier..
“Performance wise, Reece got better as the day went on and he became more familiar with the track. We have some things we need to work on, but that’s what comes with junior racing, and he has the network of people behind him to achieve just that.”
